Dated: 4th of December, 2001
Last week of November and early first week of December were the most wonderful but worrisome period of married life. We were soon to be parents. We had dreamt about this very moment. It was at early morning around 0400 hrs that my wife, who was carrying our first child, sounded me of labour pain. Within half an hour, both of us packed-off in our car- which we bought for this very moment! On the way to Umkal Hospital, I called up her gynecologist-Dr. Rita Darbari, very fine kashmiri lady- and informed her about developmentsr...Dr informed the hospital staff about our arrival and within half and hour she also landed up to check on Lingam.
Afer that, waiting game started...we waited for hours with no result.
From 0500 hrs, clocked ticked onto 0600…0700...0800...0900 hrs- Lingam’s friend: Dr. Manjuly & Dr. Rajni reached hospital from Delhi. My friend & brother-in-arm, Atanu had long joined me. At around 1100 hrs, even my 2nd eldest brother joined mid-way through his Parliament session. Everybody came except the ‘Chosen One’...Wait was getting longer, I was feeling jittery...Jittery was turning to trepidation. Trepidation because wife’s pain increased but baby was not coming home… Doctor gave her injection to induce labour but with no result. For a moment, I came face to face with the worst fear of my life- when doctor announced that she could not feel baby’s pulse and this was confirmed by Lingam's friends - Dr. Rajni & Dr. Manjuly, who were besides her......God- that was a nightmare!
At around 1520 hrs, you know, it was worse when Doctor asked me to sign a ‘consent form’- I did not know what it was for and what hit me! I blankly looked at Dr. Rajni & Dr. Manjuly who then nodded in affirmative to sign on it. Seconds after I signed; my wife was shifted onto a trolley and rushed into Operation Theatre for last moment C-Section. It was 1530 hrs.
At 1545 hrs, a lady came out from OT with a baby in her arms and announced ‘ लड़का हुआ हैं' (Later I confirmed that 1538 hrs was the precise moment of his arrival) But my reaction was ' पर बच्चे का माँ कहाँ हैं?' ' वह ठीक हैं, स्तित्चिंग हो रहीं हैं' lady replied. Then I realized that Atanu was hugging me and Dr. Rajni and Dr. Manjuly congratulating me… slowly, fatherhood was sinking onto me..!
It was an instruction from my mother that irrespective of the sex of the child, child must be named ‘PUMDEE’ means ‘Once Again’. Believe me you-what a joy it was to see him for the first time. Hope it shall remain so.

I have just finished reading the story mentioned above. I can completely co-relate with the anxiety to be parents have gone thru before the baby arrived.
ReplyDeleteHowever my case is sad and m sharing as to educate and aware all to be parents to not to rely completely on the doctors they are consulting completely and take 2nd opinion at every trimester.
I have been consulting Dr.RITA DARBARI and it was my first pregnancy and thru out the tenure in every visit doc kept assuring and telling that baby growth is PERFECT. But the on 8th month suddenly i have noticed spotting & consulted Dr.Darbari, for which she referred some test, which came normal & she gave me anti infection high potency medicine, & confirmed every thing is NORMAL. However ultrasound happened on following day, and it has detected POSTERIOR URETHAL VALVE in the baby and NO AMNIOTIC FLUID.Radiologist suggested to romove the baby immediately. The baby born by Csection and could not survive due to Urethral Valve.
The Valve could have been detected in 28thWeek, but due to Doctor's neglegiency i have to go thru such trauma and operation. Dr.even failed to ascertain that Amniotic Fluid is finished .Its a big question on her ability of Doctor... BEcause of Doctor negligiency, i have suffered so much trauma and operation. Hence all readers, pls take 2nd opinion incase you are referring Dr.RITA DARBARI. I do not wish any mother to go thru this trauma what i have. Doctors have become so much commercial now and tend to forget that they themselves are mothers and shall not risk any mother at risk. pls learn from my experience...
Hi, Thank you for the update regards to Dr. Rita Darbari. We have been consulting the doctor for the past 4 months and have also been feeling that she is very COMMERCIAL in her approach. For her any body consulting her is Rs. 500 Note that walks in for consultation, and whatever more she can earn from him by recommending Tests from the lab she has set up under the name of Nupur Diagnostics that is next to her clinic in South City. It is so disappointing that Doctors today are only concerned about money and nothing else(not all doctors but Dr. Reeta Darbari for sure). To say the least she has a Nin-com-poop for an assistant sitting in her clinic responsible for taking her appointments and an idiot who works in the Diagnostic centre. Friends this is not an attack on her capabilities as a doctor but only her attitude which is Shameful. As a personal recommendation i would say that she should be the last gynecologist you should visit. Her attitude sucks big time.
